HOUSE OF SCHOCK ANSWERS 20 Questions: KIDS MAG 1986

1: Where did the two of you meet for the first time?

Vance: In New Orleans. my band, THE COLD, opened for the Go-Go's.

Gina: I don't even remember meeting him.

2: How did the name HOUSE OF SCHOCK , come about?

Gina: We were at my housewhere we had recorded and written the demo's and someone said "Where did you get these demo's?" and Vance said "We did them all in this HOUSE OF SCHOCK."

3: Was it easy for HOUSE OF SCHOCK to land a record deal?

Gina: No! It helped that I was Gina Schock, ex-Go-Go, that got us in the door but the contracts did'nt materialize.

Vance: Manager Miles Copeland helped us quite a bit.

4: What was your first musical insturment Gina?

Gina: My first insturment was a banjo. It cost my parents like $100.00 bucks and right after I got it I fell down the stairs right on top of it and broke it in a million pieces. The neck broke off & all that was left of it was a kind of drum head that looked like a snare drum. I guess I could say the rest is history.

5: Whats the "1" things thats always in your refrigerator?

Gina: Baking Soda!

Vance: Too much ice!

6: Gina, as everyone knows, you were a member of the successful group, the Go-Go's. What was the BEST & the WORST part of it all?

Gina: The best: The struggling years. The worst: Breaking up, it was like a family. 

7: Tell us the "1" thing about the Go-Go's that the public is'nt aware of?

Vance: The MONKEES really played all of the Go-Go's insturments.

Gina: I think the main thing is that we are all proud to have been in the Go-Go's. Those were wonderful times despite all the hassles.

8: Vance, is it true that you were somehow involved with Saturday Night Live's Mr. BILL?

Vance: I was the original Mr. Hands. My partner Walter Williams & I got into an awful lawsuit but it's a lond lurid story. i don't know where Mr. Bill is nowdays, probably buried in a swamp back in New Orleans.

12: Seeing HOUSE OF SCHOCK perform recently at the ROXY, it seems that your drumming has taken a back seat to your singing?

Gina: It has to now. When we formed HOS, we auditioned lots of singers, but they were'nt singing the songs like I wanted them to be sung, so I took over the lead.

13: What made you both decide a life in music?

Vance: Seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan in 4th grade.....that was it for me.

Gina: I guess when I started Go-Go dancing in front of the T.V. watching Bobby Sherman on 'Shindig".

14: What is your "fave" places to eat here in LA?

BOTH: MUSSO & FRANKS.

15: Of all the stars that you have met Gina, who MOST & LEAST impressed you?

Gina: MOST: David Bowie LEAST: KISS, the whole pack of them!

16: Gina, roumor has it you grew up in Baltimore and hung around the John Waters crowd?

Gina: Well, I was very young but I did hang out with some of them towards the end. They sorta adopted me. I guess you could say that John Waters could of been my uncle.

17: Do you still get along with Go-Go girls?

Gina: I was always friends with Kathy & Jane. Belinda I was'nt too sure about especially after I heard she was going to write a tell-all book on the Go-Go's. But you know, I ran into Belinda in a hotel in Baltimore and after five minutes together we were like old friends, laughing and joking. I also talked her out of writing that senseless book!

18: What were the last albums/cd's that you bought for yourselves?

Gina: Tracy Chapamn.

Vance: James Brown "I'M REAL".

19: What is the first thing that you will buy when the HOS's buck$ come in?

Vance: A car!!...with an automatic and air.

Gina: $1,500 stereo speakers for my car.

20: Have either of you been stung by a bee?

Vance: Yes, while waiting for a school bus.

Gina: Damn thing got me on my swing set, right on the back of the arm.
